Hold Parliament, Assembly polls simultaneously in J&K: Tony

Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Member Suchetgarh, emphasized the critical need for democratic representation in Jammu and Kashmir by urging the visiting Election Commission to hold Assembly polls in the Union Territory simultaneously with the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the country.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme held here today, the senior Congress leader underscored the importance of addressing the genuine aspirations and demands of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly amidst the absence of a popularly elected government since 2018. He highlighted the significant challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to the prolonged absence of a democratically elected leadership, emphasizing the urgency for conducting Assembly polls in tandem with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Recognizing the present moment as an opportune time to address the democratic deficit in the Union Territory, Tony emphasized the need for inclusive and participatory democratic processes to ensure the representation of the diverse voices and aspirations of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed confidence that by holding Assembly polls simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission could facilitate the restoration of democratic governance in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering stability, progress, and inclusivity in the region.
During the event, Tony called upon the people of Suchetgarh to rally behind Rahul Gandhi and strengthen the hands of the Congress party by supporting its candidates in the upcoming polls.
He emphasized the pivotal role of grassroots support in empowering the party’s leadership and advancing its vision for a prosperous and inclusive future.
Tony reiterated the commitment of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee to advocate for the rights and interests of the people. He asserted that the Congress remains steadfast in its commitment to championing the democratic rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country as a whole, ensuring their voices are heard and respected in the electoral process.
Earlier, Taranjit Singh Tony along with Parvinder Singh Happy, Chairman of J&K Sikh Naujawan Sabha, Mohinder Singh, President of Gurudwara Rani Talab Digiana, Gurcharan Singh, Secretary of Gurudwara Rani Talab Digiana, Naib Sarpanch Hira Bhagat, fire-brand leader Mandeep Choudhary, and youth leader Mandeep Sonu, came together to dedicate the newly constructed community hall to the people of Sai Kalan Kandali in the Suchetgarh Constituency.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tony expressed his belief that the community hall would serve as a vital space for the people to gather and celebrate their social functions, fostering a stronger sense of unity and camaraderie among the residents.
In his address, Parvinder Singh Happy highlighted the significant strides taken in the development of Suchetgarh, asserting that the area stands at the forefront of progress. He emphasized the importance of community infrastructure like the newly inaugurated hall in furthering the socio-economic well-being of the residents. He also guided the youth to maintain universal brotherhood and stay away from drugs.
Local people thanked Tony for ushering a new era of development in the border villages of Suchetgarh by setting a new benchmark of development.
Tony and Parminder Singh Happy also greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the commencement of New Year as per the Desi calendar.
