Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, Samba celebrated ‘World Wildlife Day’ while covering the theme of this year i.e, “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”.
This year students of Dogra Degree College namely Harshdeep Singh (BBA2ndSem), Jasbir Kour (BBA 2nd Sem), Sukhpreet Kour (BA 2nd Sem), Gurdeep Singh ( BCom 2nd Sem), Satbeer Singh (BCom 2nd Sem) made a presentation on the topics i.e. Extinct, Endangered and Vulnerable species of J&K and India under the supervision of Ms.Palak Gupta (Convener Eco Warriors Club). World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people. At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and the human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental, and social impacts. The focus of this day was to raise awareness of the vital importance of preserving biodiversity. Biodiversity is the living fabric of our planet. It underpins human well-being in the present and the future, and its rapid decline threatens nature and people alike. The main global drivers of biodiversity loss are climate change, invasive species, over-exploitation of natural resources, pollution, and urbanization. To halt or reverse this decline it is vital to transform people’s roles, actions, and relationships with biodiversity.
Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust appreciated the initiative taken by Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal, Dogra Degree College for conducting such an event to make the students aware of the Environment, various factors that are responsible for the Environmental issues that directly lead to habitat loss and leads to their extinction. Principal, Dogra Degree College applauded the efforts of Eco-Warriors Club, Dogra Degree College for celebrating such a day to spread awareness among the students regarding the extinct, Endangered & vulnerable species of Flora & Fauna and to have a sense of responsibility to save the biodiversity of J&K and India.
