School of Economics, SMVDU organises ICSSR Sponsored Workshop

School of Economics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) successfully hosted a one-day workshop on “Prospects of Micro-Irrigationunder Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana”, funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) on 6th March, 2024 in the EC Room of Matrika Auditorium. The workshop commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the esteemed guests. The formal welcome was extended by Dr. Kakali Majumdar, the Project Director, Associate Professor, School of Economics. Dr. Majumdar also provided a comprehensive overview of the workshop’s agenda. Chief Guest of the program, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, in his inaugural address encouraged the whole team for conducting such program. He emphasised the importance of Economics for successful implementation of any government scheme, like PMKSY. Dr. Ashutosh Vashishtha, Dean, Faculty of Management also addressed the gathering and highlighted some important aspects of PMKSY. Head, School of Economics, Dr. Roop Lal Sharma, congratulated the departmental team in general and the project director in particular for successful conduction of the workshop. Among the notable speakers, Dr. Meenakshi Rajeev, Professor, IIT Jammu, Guest of Honour of the event, highlighted the concerns of micro irrigation emphasizing on the impact assessment, credit utilization, spill over effect etc. She also discussed the importance of PMKSY taking examples of some related research projects. S. Perminder Singh, DHO Udhampur shed light on the possibilities of horticulture crops in Jammu region. He emphasized on the components of PMKSY like ‘Per Drop More Crop’ and ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’. Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor, SKUAST Jammu, special guest of the workshop enriched the workshop with further elaboration on the different aspects of PMKSY and the ground level realities and problems. There was an interactive sessio
n with PMKSY beneficiaries, non beneficiary farmers, SHG and Panchayat People. This session was coordinated by Joint Director, (SLUB), Mr. Mahesh Kumar Verma and Mr. Sanjeev Khajuria, Technical Assistant o/o Joint Director Agriculture. Apart from addressing the farmers, Mr. Verma listened to the problems of farmers and provided some possible solutions to them.
The vote of thanks of the inaugural programme was delivered by Dr. Pabitra Kumar Jena, Assistant Professor, School of Economics. The other participants of this ICSSR funded workshop were faculty members, scholars and post graduate students of different Universities. The one day workshop was concluded with the summary note presented by the Research Associate, Dr. Alisha Mahajan.
