DOGRA HERALD BUREAU
JAMMU:
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) has resolved to raise its voice for the betterment of sports and sportspersons, terming the current sports policy as mere lip service.
In a press conference held today at the Press Club, Jammu, State Chief Manish Sahni said that under ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Center of Excellence’, exaggerated claims are being made for the betterment of sports and players in Jammu and Kashmir, proved to be hollow at the grassroots level.
The reality is that we do not have as many participants in interstate sports competitions as medal winners from other states. Sahni said that under ‘Khelo India’, the figures are only being compensated by marking sports grounds in remote areas and in deserted fields. Whereas there is nothing in the name of facilities including trainers.
The main Mullana Azad Stadium in Jammu and Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar are also facing severe shortage of sports facilities as well as trainers. At the same time, medal winners in sports at national and international level are becoming victims of neglect regarding government jobs. With the claims of betterment of the players, in 2021, SRO 349 (under which there was a provision to give government jobs to 25 players every year) was amended to SO 12, under which there was a provision to appoint players on five gazetted and 25 non-gazetted posts every year. But for the last 10 years, Champion has been growing older waiting to get a job. Sahni said that ‘Sports Cell’ has been formed by Shiv Sena with the resolve to improve sports and become the voice of players. Under which players and parents can give complaints and suggestions related to sports by calling 9419182952, WhatsApp or emailing “shivsenasahni@gmail.com” or give information to the party office.
We assure every possible effort to raise these issues before the Sports Department and higher administrative officials and find a solution. Sahni also assured that the names of the complainants will be kept secret. Sahni said that Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to address the rally at MA Stadium in Jammu on 20th February. It is expected that the Prime Minister will take care of sports, end the wait for champions and distribute appointment letters. On this occasion president mehila wing Meenakshi Chhibber , Vice president Sanjeev Kohli,Balwant Singh were present.
