Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh today severely criticized the Interim Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, calling it nothing more than an “election speech” devoid of concrete plans to address critical issues like inflation, unemployment, and poverty.
In a statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader said that this budget is a stark disappointment. The budget presented today was more like a popular speech rather than a strategic plan to tackle the pressing economic challenges facing our nation. “Flying with figures won’t bring down inflation, generate jobs, or lift millions out of poverty,” he added.
The Senior Congress Leader emphasized the need for comprehensive and targeted policies to alleviate the economic hardships faced by millions of citizens. “We expected the government to provide a clear roadmap for economic recovery, job creation, and poverty reduction. Unfortunately, what we witnessed today was a missed opportunity to address the immediate concerns of the people.”
He raised serious concerns about the absence of specific measures to combat inflation and unemployment, which continue to burden the common man. He remarked, “The government must understand that the citizens are looking for tangible solutions, not rhetorical flourishes. Mere promises without concrete action will not lead us towards a prosperous and inclusive future.”
The senior Congress leader criticized the BJP government, highlighting the alarming economic challenges facing the nation. He pointed to unprecedented unemployment and the highest-ever debt crisis as indicators of the government’s poor management. Citing figures from media reports, he noted that the national debt soared from Rs. 64 lakh crores in 2014-15 to a staggering Rs. 173 lakh crores in 2023-24. Characterizing the Modi government as the biggest debtor, he questioned the credibility of the claimed economic transformation.
Highlighting the importance of a well-thought-out budget, the Senior Congress Leader urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the people over political posturing. “A budget should be a reflection of the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens. We hope that moving forward, the government will reconsider its approach and focus on policies that truly make a positive impact on the lives of the people.”
