PM Vishwakarma: Ist batch of 30 trainees in Tailor (Darzi) trade begins at Women ITI Jammu

As a strategic step towards implementation of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, the first batch of 30 trainees of Tailor (Darzi) was inaugurated at Government Women Industrial Training Institute Jammu by Director Skill Development, J&K Sudershan Kumar. The J&K UT administration has became the first UT in the country to implement the PM Vishwakarma Yojna (PMVY) as the same was launched in January 2024.
The Director interacted with the PM Vishwakarma trainees and laid emphasis on their commitment to impart quality skill to the youth and focus on the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi “HUNAR SE HOGA DESH KA NAVNIRMAAN”.
Addressing the trainees, he said that the scheme will be highly beneficial as it will honour and empower the artisans who immensely contribute towards the economy.
“The scheme aims to create strong entrepreneurs to run small enterprises and business units,” the Director said and further highlighted that the Central Govt & LG Administration is committed towards forecasting a culture of skill environment across the UT. He lauded the District Administration for identification of the beneficiaries with encouraging participation of female Vishwakarmas. He also appreciated the staff members of Women ITI Jammu who make this event a grand success. Joint Director Skill Development Jammu also highlighted the key points of PM Vishwakarma Scheme and briefed the achievements of Skill Development Department. He encouraged the trainees to come up with innovative ideas and implement the same in real life to earn their livelihood and boost the economy.
The PM Vishwakarma trainees shall be assessed on the 40 hours of basic training being provided. This will be done on the modern tools, their usage covered over the training period and his knowledge of digital and financial literacy, branding and marketing, self-employment modules.
Valluru Babu, Joint Director, Regional Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (RDSDE) Jammu highlighted the aims and objectives of the scheme including the recognition of artisans through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card. He informed that J&K has bagged 7th Rank for implementation of PM Vishwakarma Scheme. Initially the training will be imparted for five days followed by an advance training of 15 days to willing Vishwakarmas.
During the training period each registered Vishwakarma is entitled for a stipend of Rs 500/- per day with a Tool kit grant of Rs 15000/-. Credit support of Rs 3 lacs in two trenches is admissible to the registered Vishwakarma on concessional interest rate of 5%, besides Incentive for Digital Transaction and Marketing Support.
Ravi Gupta Assistant Director, Skill Development Department, was also present on the occasion and briefed the activities and initiatives taken by Director, Skill Development Department to improve quality training and skill in whole JK (UT). Er. Amandeep Singh, Superintendent Women ITI, Jammu briefed the activities during the training from Day 0 to Day 6.
Later, the Director Skill Development Department distributed trainer/ assessor certificates to faculty members viz Bandana Verma (Tailor-Darzi), Ritu Abrol (Assistant Hair Dresser) and Surekha Manhas (Doll Toy Maker). Er. Nazir Ahmed presented vote of thanks.
