Senior PDP leaders, led by General Secretary Amrik Singh Reen, including Narinder Sharma, K K Sharma, Suchet Singh, Sudesh Kumar, and Varinder Singh, today paid rich tributes to PDP leader Yashpal Sharma on his death anniversary.
Paying tributes to Sharma, Reen said the late Sharma was a “towering personality, great mobilizer, and a loyal and experienced leader.” Known for his eloquence and connection with the masses, Reen mentioned that Sharma was often referred to as ‘Sher-e-Poonch’ (lion of Poonch).
“Yashpal Sharma was a renowned political personality across J&K. He was the tallest leader in the region who worked tirelessly without any bias for the people,” Reen said, adding that he was a thorough gentleman, an astute politician, and a down-to-earth personality who always raised his voice for the underprivileged sections of society. Reen emphasized Sharma’s enormous contributions to people, the party, and social causes.
Narinder Sharma, while paying his tributes to the veteran leader, said Sharma was “a voice of the people.” He noted that the former MLC had rare knowledge about every aspect of J&K’s history, from before 1947, and had dedicated his entire life to promoting peace, goodwill, and communal harmony in society.
Recalling his association with Sharma, Narinder described him as “a great professional and a noble soul,” known for his integrity, honesty, dedication, and boldness. Narinder highlighted Sharma’s role in bringing socio-political awakening among the people in the border district of Poonch.
“While Jammu and Kashmir has lost a seasoned, public-spirited, and dedicated politician, Poonch has lost its loved, respected, and broad-hearted leader who kept public service above everything,” Narinder said.
