Director Skill Development launches PM Vishwakarma Scheme in District Jammu

In a significant step by the UT administration, J&K has become the first UT in the country to implement the PM Vishwakarma Yojna (PMVY).
In continuation to its efforts, the Director of skill Development, Sudershan Kumar today inaugurated the first batch of 30 trainees in Darzi craft being imparted at Government ITI R S Pura. Subsequently, the DSD virtually launched P.M Vishwakarma Training at ITI Anantnag, ITI Doda, ITI Udhampur and ITI Kulgam for those who work with their hand tools.
During the event, the Director laid emphasis on the commitment of the government to impart quality skill to the youth. “This scheme will be highly beneficial as it will honour and empower the artisans who immensely contribute towards the economy. This scheme aims to make stronger entrepreneurs who run small enterprises / business units,” said the Director. He further highlighted that the Central Government and LG led Administration is committed towards forecasting a culture of skill environment across the region to create maximum possible avenues for the youth.
The aims and object of the scheme for recognition of artisans and crafts of people through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card as well as basic training of 5-7 days with a stipend of Rs 500 per day. The scheme will also provide a modern toolkit of Rs 15000 free of cost to trained Vishwakarma besides linkage with credit based soft loans and marketing support for expansion of their business will also be provided under the yojna.
G.M Bhatt, Joint Director, Jammu, B. Babu, Joint Director, RDSD Government of India, Ravi Gupta, A.D, DSD, Gurmeet Singh A.D, RDSD Jammu and other senior officers of the Department were present on the occasion.
