India reported 203 fresh Covid cases in last 24 hours, while the active caseload was recorded at 2,034, the Union Health Ministry updated on Monday. While, the country also recorded two deaths, one each in Kerala and Maharashtra in last 24 hours, according to the data updated at 8 am. The number of daily cases began to rise in the country after the emergence of a new Covid 19 variant- JN 1 and cold weather conditions spiked the patients further. Of the total active cases, a large majority of around 92 per cent are recovering in home isolation. The currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is neither leading to an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalisation and mortality, PTI reported.
Meanwhile in Maharashtra, on Sunday 58 new Covid-19 cases were reported while 64 patients were discharged. The state’s recovery rate stands at 98.18 per cent, while the death rate is reported at 1.81 per cent.

The state also conducted 9310 Covid 19 tests on Sunday. Among them, 1740 were RT-PCR tests, and 7570 were RAT tests, resulting in a daily positivity rate of 0.62 per cent.

Since the pandemic began in early 2020, there have been more than 4.50 crore people getting infected and over 5.30 lakh deaths in about four years since then across the country.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease stands at more than 4.40 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent, according to the ministry’s website.
