Continuing the campaign against the sale of liquor near educational institutions and religious places, leaders of Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Jammu and Kashmir unit raised their voice today against the opening of liquor shops near Jammu Railway Station and in the vicinity of Shiv temples at Shiv Market. During this protest, they engaged in a special interaction with the general public and religious tourists. Manish Sahni, the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT) in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasized the need to completely ban the sale of liquor near religious places. Devotees visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and local residents strongly condemned the presence of liquor shops near these sacred places. Manish Sahni stated that it is the collective belief of devotees and locals that the sale of liquor near religious sites should be strictly prohibited. Sunil Manjrekar, a visitor from Maharashtra who came to Jammu for the darshan of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, expressed shock at the prevalence of liquor shops throughout the temple city of Jammu. He asserted that this not only surprised him but also hurt his religious sentiments.
Local resident Nitin conveyed his deep dissatisfaction with the sale of liquor inside Shiv Market and in the vicinity of the temple. He demanded the immediate closure of these liquor shops. Suresh Kumar pointed out the inconsistency, mentioning that while there is a ban on selling meat in Shiv Market, liquor is being sold indiscriminately. He emphasized the necessity of a complete prohibition on the sale of both liquor and meat near religious places.
Manish Sahni informed the public that the campaign, initiated with the support of Rajan Chaudhary, Head of Social News Channel, is gaining widespread support. Despite facing threats from unknown individuals, Sahni pledged to persist in the campaign to make the land of holy saints, sages, and peer prophets alcohol-free at any cost.
The movement against liquor sales near religious and educational institutions has struck a chord with both locals and visitors alike. It underscores the significance of preserving the sanctity of these places by advocating for a complete ban on the sale of liquor in their proximity. The campaign, driven by public support and determination, is poised to bring about meaningful change in creating alcohol-free zones around sacred sites.
