Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in J&K celebrated the birthday of Behan Kumari Mayawati, M.P. Rajya Sabha, National President BSP, and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Her birthday, observed as Jan Kalyan Diwas, falls on 15th January, and the grand function took place at Ambedkar Bhawan Bari Brahmna from 10 am onwards.
Ex-Member Parliament Dr. Avtar Singh Karimpuri, Co-ordinator BSP for states Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, was the chief guest, with Sh. Darshan Rana, President BSP J&K, presiding over the function. Enthusiasm was evident among people from various walks of life who started gathering early in the morning.
The function commenced with the lighting of candle lamps by Chief Guest Dr. Avtar Singh Karimpuri. The atmosphere resonated with cheers and slogans in favor of Behan Mayawati, such as “Mayawati Zindabad” and “Mayawati Sangharsh karo Hum tumhare saath hain.” Rohit Sangral sang songs praising Mayawati Ji and other missionary songs related to the social and economic movements initiated by Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Manyawar Sh. Kanshi Ram Ji, and the BSP.
Speakers at the event lauded Behan Kumari Mayawati Ji for her dedication to the upliftment of SC, ST, OBC, and other minorities. As a four-time Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, she tirelessly fights for the protection of the rights of the downtrodden. Her efforts in the Rajya Sabha, especially in pushing for the protection of reservation in promotions, were highlighted. However, the pending bill in the Lok Sabha faces resistance from the BJP-led Modi government.
The speakers emphasized the need for the people to understand that the BJP and its allies aim to undermine the rights and reservations enshrined in the Indian constitution. Similar challenges were faced in J&K, where the High Court ordered the stoppage of reservation in promotions for SC, ST, and OBC. Manyawar Sh. Kanshi Ram Ji halted the anti-reservation movement in 1984 and 2004. The call to join the BSP platform to safeguard rights and capture power was reiterated.
Charanjeet Chargotra expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the function. Preetibhoj was served at the end. The speakers included Vice President Charanjit Chargotra, DDC Sandeep Magotra, Sunil Magotra, Gourav Baksh, Adv. Sashi Bushan Thappa, RC Gandhi, Jagdish Bhagat, Bishan Dass Bhagat, and others.
