The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the conditions are becoming favourable for the cessation of Northeast Monsoon from January 15.
Dense to very dense fog will continue to prevail during morning hours in isolated pockets of northwest India during the next 5 days, the MeT department said.
Under the influence of western disturbance, light rainfall and snowfall are very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on January 12 & 13, and enhance further from January 16. Uttarakhand is also expected to witness light rainfall and snowfall on January 16 & 17.
The weather department further predicted that light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during the next 24 hours and dry weather thereafter.
Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in some parts of Punjab and isolated pockets over Haryana, and Chandigarh from January 11 to 15. East and West Uttar Pradesh is also expected to witness dense to very dense fog conditions for a few hours in the morning on January 11 & 12 and dense fog for the subsequent 3 days, the IMD said.
According to IMD, cold day to severe cold day conditions is expected to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh on 11 & 12 January and in isolated pockets of Punjab from January 13th–15th.
Cold Day conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand on 11th & 12th; over West Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on 11 January and abate thereafter, the IMD said.
The MeT department further predicted a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures over many parts of Central and East India during the next 3 days and no significant change thereafter.
“Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on 11th & 12th and cold wave conditions in isolated pockets on 13th January 2024. Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana on 11th & 12th January, it said.
Ground frost conditions are very likely over Uttarakhand and Rajasthan on January 11 & 12.
