Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has called upon the central government to initiate a dialogue with the truckers currently on strike in protest against the recently enacted law concerning hit-and-run road accidents involving drivers of commercial vehicles. The newly passed legislation, Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), stipulates that negligent drivers could face penalties of up to 10 years in prison or a hefty fine of Rs 7 lakh. Expressing his concerns over the ongoing nationwide strike by truckers, Bukhari emphasized the adverse impact it is having on the general public across the country. In a press release issued on Tuesday, he stated, “The nationwide strike by the truckers has started creating problems for the general public. Fuel pumps are running dry due to the lack of supply. There might be a shortage of other essentials as well if the issue with the protesting transporters is not resolved amicably soon.” Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Bukhari urged the union government to promptly engage in talks with the stakeholders involved in the strike to bring about a resolution. He stated, “I request the union government to engage in talks with the protesting transporters without any delay so that the strike is called off and the present uncertainty is resolved.” He emphasized that, for the benefit of the general public, it is crucial to address the issue amicably at the earliest.
Bukhari underlined the potential repercussions of the strike, including the looming possibility of fuel shortages and potential scarcity of other essential commodities if the matter is not resolved expeditiously. His plea to the government is rooted in the need to alleviate the hardships faced by the common people due to the disruption in the transportation sector.
Apni Party President’s call for dialogue underscores the importance of open communication and timely resolution to ensure the welfare of both the protesting truckers and the general public. As the strike continues to impact various sectors, the ball is now in the court of the central government to engage in meaningful discussions and find a resolution to the pressing issues raised by the truckers.
