Expressing anguish over increasing criminal activities in Samba, the Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh on Monday has appealed District Police to curb the criminal activities that has spread fear psychosis among the people following repeated stabbing incidents in bright day light in last few of days.
A monthly meeting of the Apni Party was organized here at Vijaypur under the leadership of Manjit Singh.
In this meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding different issues in Samba, particularly increase in crime, unscheduled power cuts and suffering of farmers.
In his address, S. Manjit Singh said that the people are deeply concerned about the worsening situation in Samba with abrupt spurt in criminal activities, and drug addictions whereas the police seem clueless.
“The law-and-order situation has deteriorated in Samba with every passing day and this situation has panicked the people. The situation has worsened within several months, and the criminals stab people without fearing the law or police,” he said.
He appealed to the SSP Samba and other officials in the police department to take strict action against the elements who want to destroy the peaceful atmosphere and arrest the criminals under stringent laws.
He recalled how brutally a newspaper hawker, and another man were stabbed with sharp edged weapons and cut their body parts without mercy.
“Even as the situation is worrying, the Samba police has been working day and night to control the crime. We hope that the police will further tighten its grid against the criminals and put them behind the bars under the stringent laws,” he said.
He however appealed to people for their awareness and help the police in solving the criminal acts so that such disturbing elements can be dealt with iron hands as per the laws of the land.
Meanwhile, he also referred to the unprecedented unscheduled power cuts that have impacted the water supply system in the district.
He said that the worst sufferers are the farmers who failed to run their water pumps to water their agricultural fields in Samba.
“In view of the continuous power cuts, the farmers have been left in a hopeless situation because their water pumps do not work, and they fail to supply water to their fields. On the other hand, the canals are also unable to supply canal water for irrigation purposes to all the villages especially at the tail-end villages,” he added.
