NEW DELHI, Dec 23
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Saturday that Opposition members, especially Congress leaders, who have made a mockery of those in high Constitutional posts like that of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will have to face the consequences of their “shameful” acts and the people themselves will give a befitting reply to such elements.
Addressing a gathering on Saturday afternoon after unveiling a 51-foot statue of former Prime Minister and Jat leader Chaudhary Charan Singh at a function held in Belari, Moradabad to mark his 121st birth anniversary, the chief minister said that by projecting the Vice President in an indecent manner, Congress leaders demeaned the Constitution and disrespected B R Ambedkar. Earlier a viral video from Parliament showed Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee appearing to mimic the Vice President, following which Jagdeep Dhankhar said he will not tolerate any insult to the post he holds.
“Such behaviour is not acceptable to anyone and we [the government] are not going for any compromise on the despicable act towards our Vice President. This act showing hatred towards the people holding constitutional posts is extremely shameful,” Yogi said. The statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh was built by the Jat Mahasabha which had also sent an invite to his grandson and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary for the meeting. However, he did not turn up. “We feel proud that our Uttar Pradesh has given us a great leader like Chaudhary Charan Singh who devoted his entire life for the welfare of farmers. Our government is trying to set an example for the new generation by making the lives of such great leaders a source of inspiration for the youth,” the chief minister said. “Free tractors and free irrigation water to farmers was Chaudhary Charan Singh’s dream and that dream has been turned into reality by the double-engine government in UP and at the Centre,” Yogi Adityanath said. “We will provide irrigation water to our farmers who own tubewells,” he added. The chief minister said that it was because of the concerted attempt of the double engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a magnificent temple of Lord Ram would be dedicated to the nation in Ayodhya on January 22 next year.
“Could the previous government have turned into reality the impossible task of building the Ram temple at his birthplace,” he asked.
The chief minister reiterated that the law and order situation under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is such that the state has not witnessed a single riot since 2017.
“Curfew na danga, UP mein sab changa (No curfew, no riots, all is well in UP),” he said, adding that his government ensured that those trying to do mischief are dealt with an iron hand.
“It was because of the measures taken by the government that the people have voted the BJP government to power in succession. No other government has been voted to power twice in UP for a long time, which shows the faith of people in the double-engine government,” he added.
