CUJ holds one-Day Seminar on “Life and Work of Srinivasa Ramanujan”

The Department of Mathematics at Central University Jammu organized a one-day seminar “Life and Work of Srinivasa Ramanujan” to mark the “National Mathematics Day “on 20th December, 2023.
The seminar is dedicated to exploring the extraordinary life and influential work of the renowned mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. The event took place under the esteemed patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, highlighting the university’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and mathematical inquiry. The seminar provided a platform for scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts to delve into the rich mathematical legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the field. The focus of the event extended beyond theoretical discussions, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and the broader community.
The program started by lighting the lamp with saraswati pooja. The chief guest of the seminar was Prof. Vinay Kumar, Dean, Basic and Applied Sciences and Head of Department of Physics and Astronomical Sciences, Central University of Jammu. In his address Prof. Vinay Kumar emphasized on the hard work with dedication and motivation to the students to perform better in every situation of life.
Prof. S. D. Sharma, Ex. Dean of Mathematical Sciences, University of Jammu who was the guest of honor who brought their expertise to enrich the discourse. Their insightful contributions added a significant layer of depth to the seminar, enhancing the overall learning experience for the attendees. He also enlightened with some interesting stories related to Ramanujan , such as Ramanujan number 1729.
Prof. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Head Department of Mathematics shared the brief history and achievements of the Department. While Dr. Pavinder presented mementos to the guests.
Dr. Uday Pratap Singh, Convener of the seminar, threw light on the life and research work of Ramanujan. Dr. Kamlesh Kumar, Organizing Secretary of the seminar welcomed all attendees and quoted Ramanujan’s statement, “An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God”.
Invited speaker, Dr. Arvind Kumar, IIT Jammu gave an invited talk on the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan. M.Sc. students Pooja, Siddanth, Mehvish , Urwashi, Rohit, Nandini, Simran, Bharti, Tania and Shivani participated and performed activities as speeches, conversations and understanding, presentation and song on the life and work of Ramanujan. Research Scholar, Tanisha was anchored during the seminar.
