JU students raise awareness on HIV/AIDS through short play competition

The Department of Students Welfare in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society organised a Short Play Competition through its Red Ribbon Club for awareness about HIV and AIDS at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. The purpose of the competition was to create awareness about this issue as there is an urgent need to improve and increase Comprehensive Knowledge of HIV/AIDS through various activities especially amongst young people.
Participants presented thought provoking performances on the topics, ‘Routes of HIV transmission’, ‘Myths & Misconceptions related to HIV’, ‘Promotion of Helpline 1097’, ‘Information on Stigma & Discrimination/ HIV Act’.
The effectiveness of this event can be apparently seen through the zestful participation of around 200 students from different Colleges/Campuses and Teaching Departments of University of Jammu.
In her address, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, apprised the participants about the importance of this event which aims at spreading knowledge about prevention of AIDS.
The First Position was clinched by the team of PG Integrated students, The Second Position was secured by the team of GCW, Parade. The team of DD& OE secured Third Position. The Certificates of Merit were awarded to the teams of Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana and Stephens Nursing College, UIET Kathua . Sh. Janak Khajuria, Sh. Suresh Sharma and Sh. Neeraj Kant were the adjudicators of the event.
The winners were felicitated in presence of Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector Kathua Campus, Prof. Prakash Antahal, Prof, Monika Chadha, Sh. Risheesh Khajuria, Assistant Director(IEC) JKACS, and Dr. Hema Gandotra, Coordinator Red Ribbon Club, University of Jammu.
The skit presented by the students of Dogra Degree College was on the theme on the causes and cure of HIV Aids .The skit focused on the life of Raju, a truck driver who get infected with HIV Aids by having multiple sexual relations. The play focused on how the life of Raju gets devastated by having unprotected sexual activity with multiple partners. The play communicated the message about the causes, effects and cures of HIV Aids. The students who participated in the skit were :- Harsh sharma(as Guruji),Sujal Dubey (as Nath), Dhairya Jamwal( as Raju), Mehak Charak (as Mona), Parul Pandotra (as Raju’s wife), Shabnam (as Chalako Mai), Jasbir Kour (as Aunty-1), Sanjana Choudhary (as Aunty-2), Jahnvi Sharma (as Doctor) and Shiv Sharma(as chocolate). The skit was prepared under the guidance of Ms. Shivani Mengi Makin (member Cultural Committee, DDC) and Mr. Rinkal Gupta (Convener Red Ribbon Club, DDC).
