SMVDU hosted “World Anti-Microbial Resistance Awareness Week-2023”

“World AMR Awareness Week” is organized every year from 18th to 24th November to raise awareness and understanding of the effects of antimicrobial resistance among the general public, health professionals, and policymakers. It is expected that by doing so, further emergence and the spread of AMR will be reduced.
A one-day event on “World AMR Awareness week-2023” in association with MBSI as part of an awareness initiative taken by WHO to combat antimicrobial resistance was organized by the School of Biotechnology, SMVDU.
The event was planned by researchers of the Molecular Biology lab, Miss Rabiya Tabbassum, Miss Mansavi Bhardwaj, and Miss Swadha Kailoo under the guidance of Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Faculty member SoBT to educate people about the judicious use of antibiotics.
The event was attended by the students, research scholars, and faculty members of the School of Biotechnology, SMVDU.
The opening remark of the event was delivered by Dr. Shafaq Rasool. She provided a brief introduction of the event and explained the motive behind organizing such events and how AMR can be prevented or slowed down.
A Poster presentation session on the theme “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together” was also organized as part of the event. Students of B.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc. Biotechnology participated in the competition and presented their posters at the event. The winners of the poster presentation were awarded with certificates of appreciation. A pledge for the judicious use of antibiotics was also taken by all the attendees as part of this awareness program.The event was coordinated by Dr. Shafaq Rasool and thanked Microbiologists Society India (MBSI) especially, Prof. Arvind Deshmukh, President of MBSI for being instrumental in organising this event. She also expressed her thanks to University authorities for making this event a success.
