To spread awareness on adoption and celebrate the Adoption Awareness Month, the State Adoption Resource Agency, Mission Vatsalya, Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Central Adoption Resource Authority organised an event at the EVS Hall of Jammu University today. The event was attended by Mission Director Mission Vatsalya, Harvinder Kour; Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya; Deputy Director CARA, Durgesh Nandini; District Social Welfare Officer, Mamta Rajput and Program Manager SARA J&K, Dr Anupa Sharma. The speakers highlighted the importance of adoption as a way of providing permanent and loving families for children in need, especially those who are orphaned, abandoned, or surrendered and children with special needs. They also emphasised the value of child participation and empowerment in the adoption process and the need to connect them to their roots and identity. The participants were informed about the legal and procedural aspects of adoption, the eligibility criteria, the role of various stakeholders and the post-adoption support services available.
The event was part of the Adoption Awareness Month campaign, which is an initiative of the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) that seeks to increase national awareness of adoption issues, bring attention to the need for adoptive families for children in need and emphasise the value of child participation.
The organisers appealed to the people to come forward and adopt children who are waiting for a family and a home.
