Awareness programme on prevention of violence against women and girls held at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Nov 28
Special cell for women, Udhampur supported by National Commission for Women, and in collaboration with Government medical College Udhampur, organised an awareness session on the 16 days of activism to prevent violence against women and girls, here today. The program was chaired by Principal of Government Medical College, Udhampur Doctor Mrityunjay Gupta and attended by Anwar-Ul-Haq, Addl. SP Udhampur, Head of the department of Community medicine, Members of Internal Complaint committee and students, besides renowned social workers Priyanka Hansa and Azra Parveen.
The event started with the address of Resource person Azra Parveen. She enlightened participants about the background of 16 days of activism and also Elaborated how to prevent violence against women’ and girls within the family, educational institutions, police and private sectors.
She also discussed about how we can engage different stakeholders to prevent violence against women and the role of the special cell for women in eradication of the violence against women.
Priyanka Hansa discussed the statistical data of female infanticide, Sex ratio, dowry, female literacy rate gender based discrimination, gender roles and gender based violence, besides the amendments of the Medical termination of pregnancy act, 2021. She also discussed about the access of medical health services to the women and girls and the prevention of violence against women.
Social workers enlightened the participants by showing the clip of the pink movie.
The Add. SP Udhampur enlightened the audience about the services of special cell and praised the work of special cell for women, Udhampur.
The Principal of GMC Udhampur, enlightened the students and staff about the prevention of violence against women and girls. He also praised the work of special cell for women, Udhampur. He said the Medical College Udhampur will invite the organizers for future awareness sessions on POCSO and POSH.
In the discussion round, social workers aware them about the contact details of the special cell for women, Udhampur.
The program concluded on a very positive note every one calling for united efforts to address the grave issue of the violence against women. Approx 100 participants were the part of today’s awareness session.
