The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Central University of Jammu, organized a Thursday Mind Meet under the patronage and able guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain. The theme of the meet was “Security and Artificial Intelligence”, which is a contemporary research challenge in the current scenario. The event started with introductory remarks about the Thursday mind meet by Prof. Vandana Sharma, convener of the event and Dean of School of Languages. Prof. Vandana also informed about this highly motivating initiative taken by our visionary Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain to ignite young minds of the University.
Prof. Yashwant Singh HoD CSIT and Registrar, CUJ welcomed the gathering and introduced the panel members. The expert members in the panel for discussion was from CUJ which include Prof. Yashwant Singh (HoD, CSIT), Dr. Arvind Selwal (Assistant Professor, CSIT), Col. Nitin Langey (M.Tech Student), Mr. Zakir Ahmad Sheikh (Ph.D Scholar), Ms. Bharti Thakur (M.Tech Student), and Ms. Viswaja (B.Tech Student). In his discussion, Prof. Yashwant Singh emphasized on various cyber security attacks, vulnerabilities, and security issues related to critical infrastructure at national level. He also discussed ethical and unethical issues of Artificial Intelligence and the mechanisms to deal with various attacks in IoT. He motivated students and researcher scholars to actively engage in finding new solutions to mitigate such threats in the information systems and computer networks.
Thereafter, Dr. Arvind Selwal focused on various security and privacy concerns of data being communicated through various social media platforms. He also quoted few real-time examples of security breaches in biometric- based human authentication that are deployed in computing applications such as face, fingerprint, or iris.
He also raised concerns about deepfakes attacks via videos, images and audio and provided insights of generative AI.
He stressed upon framing appropriate regulation to tackle the issues of deepfakes and to develop robust deepfake detection mechanisms.
Later, Col. Nitin Langey expressed his views related to Large Language Models (LLM) that have surpassed human abilities as well as threat analysis and the way ahead to regulate generative AI. During the meet Mr. Zakir A. Sheikh discussed the various types of IoT attacks and the methods to tackle these attacks through AI. Ms. Bharti Thakur also raised serious concerns related to information security and attacks. Ms. Viswaja in her remarks, stressed upon building the synergy between cyber security and artificial intelligence.
The discussion was highly informative and attended by faculty members, students and Ph.D scholars from various Departments of the University and who also interacted with the panelists via some relevant queries. Kuljeet Singh, Ph.D Scholar moderated the entire event, which was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, CSE.
