DC Kupwara chairs NCORD Meeting

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today chaired the meeting of district-level committee under Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review action taken on directions issued in the previous NCORD meeting and discuss various measures to curb drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
In the meeting, various issues related to the incidence of drug addiction, hot spots of drug abuse, measures being taken in the district etc were taken for detailed deliberations.
ADC Kupwara apprised the chair that during the last three years 367 cases have been registered under NDPS in the district, 603 persons have been arrested and 56 detentions under PSA have been made.
It was further informed that 9 Panchayats of the district have been declared as NASHA MUKT and 42 panchayats are under verification. While reviewing measures being taken and progress achieved to eliminate drug abuse and its peddling, DC Kupwara stressed on the need for accountability of data and said that data authentication is very important.
ADC Kupwara was directed to constitute a committee at Tehsil level for identification of addiction cases and their mobilisation to drug De-addiction centres.
The DC directed CMO Kupwara to submit a DPR for the Drug De-addiction centre at Tangdar with provisions of tele-OPD.
She directed the concerned officers to frame a calendar of drug de-addiction awareness camps at tehsil levels and asked to organise counseling sessions in Tehsils.
She also asked concerned Tehsildars and BMOs to ensure mobilisation of addict persons and their next of kins to these counseling camps.
The DC directed CEO Kupwara to share a calendar of seminars and other activities scheduled in educational institutes of the district with the Health department so that they can depute MLHPs to awareness camps for sensitization of students. Ayushi emphasised on Health authorities to focus on follow up of cases after treatment and identify some recovered persons for success stories.
The Drug Inspector was directed to ensure 100 percent installation of CCTV cameras in the chemist shops and other associated locations to ensure proper monitoring of drugs related activities.
The DC directed the enforcement agencies to take action under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) against persons selling tobacco products in the 100- metre radius of educational institutions.
Stressing on the need of sustained and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders, DC said that District Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against menace of drugs in the district. ADC Kupwara, Gh.Nabi Bhat; SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas; SP Handwara, Dawood Ayoob; ACP, DIO, DSWO, Tehsildars, DFO Kamraj and other concerned Officers attended the meeting.
