JAMMU, Nov 20
Jambu Zoo welcomed a new pair of Royal Bengal Tigers, marking a significant addition to its wildlife attractions. The male and female tigers, both nine years old, arrived from the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in a specially designed compartment via the Andaman Nicobar train.
Upon arrival, the Forest Department’s team safely transferred the tigers to the zoo in special cages. The tigers were immediately placed in quarantine to help them acclimate to their new environment. For the next eight days, they will be kept in an enclosure to ensure a smooth transition before being released for public viewing.
The zoo has prepared a sprawling 4000 square meter enclosure specifically for the Bengal Tigers, ensuring their comfort and safety. On the first day of quarantine, each tiger was fed four kilograms of raw meat, a gradual introduction to their regular diet, which typically consists of ten kilograms per day. This careful dietary management is part of the process to help them adjust to their new surroundings.
The Warden of Jambu Zoo emphasized the zoo’s efforts in creating a conducive environment for the tigers’ adaptation. “We have made all necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of the Bengal Tigers and help them adjust to the new place. Currently, both are calm and adapting well,” he stated.
The arrival of these majestic creatures is expected to significantly boost the zoo’s appeal, making the Bengal Tigers a central attraction for visitors. This initiative not only enhances the zoo’s diversity but also contributes to the conservation and awareness of this endangered species.
