A 35-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district was allegedly gang-raped by at least five men who entered her house on Tuesday evening and escaped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs, the police said.
A case of gang rape and dacoity has been lodged and no arrests have been made yet. Bijnor Superintendent of Police (SP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said three teams have been formed to nab the culprits. As per the first information report (FIR) lodged on Wednesday, the accused entered the woman’s house on Tuesday by scaling the neighbour’s wall and forced her to consume a liquid, after which she fell unconscious. “They looted nearly 250 gm gold, 2 kg silver and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.
While they were busy rummaging through my house, my wife came to her senses and tried to raise a cry for help. They then held her captive and gang-raped her. They also burnt her body in six places with a cigarette and escaped,” the woman’s husband said in the FIR. A case has been registered at the jurisdictional police station under sections 376D (gang rape), 395 (dacoity), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc) of the Indian Penal Code. “A case has been registered at the area police station on the basis of the written complaint by her husband. Prima facie, it appears that someone close to the family has tipped off the accused that the woman was alone in the house on Tuesday evening as her husband and their two sons had gone to get medicine from a doctor in a nearby town.
We are scrutinising available CCTV footage in the area,” Jadaun said. The husband has also said in the FIR that a week ago, two people had stolen Rs 80,000 from him when he was about to enter his house.
“I informed the area police station but they ignored my complaint,” he alleged.
The SP sent the in-charge of the area police station to police lines for laxity.
