Akhnoor youth dies in Greece, family seeks Govt help to bring body back home

The family members of a 26-year-old Akhnoor resident, who died in Greece, have appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government to help in bringing the mortal remains to India.
The youth identified as Pankaj Sharma of village Muthi of Jourian tehsil in District Jammu died in Greece few days ago and his body is lying at General Hospital, Neas Ionias, Konstantopouleio, Greece.
The deceased youth had been staying in Greece for the last three and half years, the family members said adding that Pankaj was working in a company.
“He belongs to a poor farming family and had gone to Greece for earning but unfortunately died and now he has left behind his mother, and three brothers, ” relatives said ading that his father Yash Pal had already died few years ago and famiy has agriculture as the only source of income.
One of the relatives of the deceased said that the family came to know through an official who called up from Indian Embassy in Greece that Pankaj has died. As desired by the officer, an affidavit by deceased’s mother Geeta Devi has also been sent to the said officer of Embassy both through e-mail as well as Whatsapp for facilitating mortal remains back to native village Muthi.
The family appealed to the Central government to help them to bring body back home.
“We request the External Affairs Ministry and Union Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh to ensure that the mortal remains of the deceased are brought back at the earliest so that we can perform the final rites,” the family members said and demanded that the cause of death must be investigated to provide justice.
