Parliament Monsoon Session Highlights: Both Houses adjourned till July 21 amid ruckus over Manipur violence

Parliament Monsoon Session: The session started today and will continue till August 11 comprising of 17 sittings. However, the proceedings of the day could not gain pace owing to the ruckus in both Houses over Manipur violence. Both the Houses were first adjourned till 2 pm before finally getting adjourned for the days. The government has intended to table as many as 31 bills during the session. Meanwhile, Opposition parties have planned to raise Manipur violence, railway safety, unemployment, inflation, the status of the India-China Border and the trade balance between the two countries among other issues during the monsoon session. The Opposition also insisted that the discussion should take place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, the monsoon session of Parliament started in the old building. The new building was inaugurated by Modi on May 28. The second day of proceedings will begin at 11 am on Friday, July 21.
