Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the government’s move to “aggressively promote” The Kashmir Files and “weaponising the pain of Kashmiri Pandits” makes its “ill intentions obvious”.

“How GOI is aggressively promoting Kashmir Files and is weaponising pain of Kashmiri Pandits makes their ill intention obvious,” PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Mehbooba Mufti also accused the government of “creating a conducive atmosphere between the two communities”.

“Instead of healing old wounds and creating a conducive atmosphere between the two communities, they are deliberately tearing them apart,” Mehbooba Mufti said. Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial venture, The Kashmir Files, depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s. The film also outlines the brutalities endured by the Kashmiri Pandits when they were killed, persecuted and forced to leave their homes overnight.

The movie received a massive push from the Centre and states and got Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nod when the makers met him on Saturday.

It has also been made tax free in several states, like Goa, Gujarat, Haryana and Tripura. In addition, the movie has been exempted from paying tax in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
