Winter has gained more momentum in Jammu and Kashmir. On Thursday, after a snowfall in many high mountain areas, including Afarwat of Gulmarg in Baramulla district, the cold outbreak has increased in the valley. The Zojila Pass also became snow-covered. Traffic on the road from Sonmarg to Zojila Pass has been closed as a precaution. Srinagar’s maximum temperature did not drop in the last four days, but Jammu’s mercury chilled.
This morning mist engulfed the entire city. In four days, it fell by four degrees Celsius to 16.2 on Thursday. The maximum temperature of Jammu on December 13 was 20.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature has also dived, and it dropped from 8.5 to 5 degrees Celsius during this period. Thursday-Friday night was the coldest night of this season in Jammu.
Due to the Western Disturbance, there was a possibility of snowfall in Kashmir late evening on December 14. However, the weather remained dry till December 15. However, on December 16, i.e. on Thursday morning, the weather changed its direction, and snowfall started in the high mountain areas, including Afarwat, which continued intermittently till late evening. In Amarnath Cave, Sonmarg, Sadhna Pass, Zojila Pass, snow has accumulated up to 3-4 inches. There has been light snowfall on the Mughal Road in the Poonch district, including the high hills. Traffic on Mughal has not been affected.
DSP Traffic Merajdin Raina said that the road is slippery due to three inches of snowfall from Sonmarg to Zojila Pass. Traffic will be restored after clearing the snow. Bandipora – Gurez road is closed for three days. This route passes through Razdan Pass. Four inches of snow has fallen near Razdan.
