CHURACHANDPUR (MANIPUR): Commanding officer Colonel Viplab Tripathi of 46 Assam Rifles, his wife and son and four paramilitary force personnel were on Saturday martyred after terrorists ambushed their convoy in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Manipur terrorist group – People’s Liberation Army is suspected to be behind the attack on the 46 Assam Rifles convoy. Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) burst, shattering tenuous peace in Manipur hills, before the Assam Rifles personnel engaged the terrorists in a firefight. Condemning the ‘cowardly attack’, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said, “The State forces & Para military are already on their job to track down the militants.
The perpetrators will be brought to justice.” Police said the incident took place near Sehken village as the heavily-armed terrorists fired upon the convoy of the Assam Rifles colonel killing him, his wife, their son and three Quick Reaction Team jawans on the spot. The commanding officer was on his way back after supervising a civic action programme in the Churachandpur district, bordering Myanmar.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack on the five personnel of Assam Rifles and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. “Convoy of a commanding officer of an Assam Rifles unit ambushed by terrorists in Singhat sub-division of Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
