Lt Gen DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 15th Corps, Srinagar, said that the Army’s anti-terrorist operations in the last few days are entirely based on intelligence. Therefore, he would not like to associate any operation with new or old events. However, he also said that the security forces and the people of Kashmir need to be very careful to maintain communal harmony.
Briefing reporters about these encounters after the Shopian encounter, the Lt Gen told reporters that all the anti-terrorist operations launched in the last few days were based on intelligence. He also categorically stated on the select killings in Srinagar in the previous few days that, “I would not like to link these operations with any incident in Srinagar or elsewhere.” Civilian killings are highly reprehensible. Security forces and people have to fully understand the conspiracies of these anti-national elements and be careful to maintain communal harmony.
On the infiltration attempts, Lt Gen Pandey said that two attempts were made so far, and both were foiled. The Army is alert and ready to thwart any infiltration attempt along the LoC. He said that the people of the Valley want peace, and now with their help, the terrorists operating in the hinterland will be killed. The Army is dealing with the situation. We do not need additional forces anywhere in the Kashmir Valley. The GOC also paid tributes to the five jawans martyred in the anti-militancy operation at Dera Ki Gali on the Poonch-Rajouri border.
