Initiatives are taken up for connecting Sports with Tourism in Ladakh: LG Mathur

LEEH: Ladakh Scouts team lifted the 1st LG Horse Polo Cup by defeating Himalayan B in the finals at Polo Ground Goshan. 14 teams from across Ladakh participated in the Tournament, which was organised by the UT Administration Ladakh, under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur was the chief guest on this occasion.

The 7 days event kick started on 29th September, 2021 wherein teams from different parts of Ladakh including Drass, Chuchot and Mundik besides teams of Ladakh Scouts and Animal Husbandry Department Leh participated. Appreciating the efforts of Amin Polo for promotion of Traditional Horse Polo in Ladakh, LG Ladakh said that the tournament is an initiative to support the revival of Horse Polo in Ladakh which will help in turning Drass into a hub of sporting activities.

Steps are also on to connect sports with tourism as well, and infrastructure improvement pertaining to Horse Polo Ground Goshan Drass is also being done, LG Mathur said. He further said that the horse polo tournament organized by the UT Administration Ladakh is aimed for promotion of horse polo as traditional game besides it will also promote cultural tourism in Drass area. Sports will be the key to channelize the youths for nation development and efforts are going on in full swing by the UT Administration to strengthen the sports infrastructure in Ladakh, RK Mathur said.

Later, LG Ladakh also visited Goshan International Ice Hockey Rink Drass. On this occasion, CEC LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan, Administrative Secretary Sports UT Ladakh Ravindra Kumar Dangi, SDM Drass Anwar Ali and other officers and Sports Lover were also present.
