Punjab-based trucker nabbed with 199 Kg poppy straw in Leh

LEH: Leh Police seized huge quantity of contraband substance and arrested a trucker. As per details, on specific information from reliable sources regarding transportation of contraband substance, a police team headed by DySP Headquarters Leh Ishtyaq A A K Kachoo along with SHO Leh Inspector Mohd Yousuf and Incharge Police Post Housing Colony SI Rigzin Gurmet, intercepted a truck (PB32L – 9987) driven by one Amandeep Kumar alias Vicky, son of Darshan Lal, resident of Bora Hoshiarpur, Punjab near Gurdwara Pather Saheb.

On thorough search of the truck, for which proper search warrant was obtained from Chief Judicial Magistrate Leh, the team succeeded in recovering 199 Kg and 100 gm poppy straw (Bhukki), packed in sack bags. The vehicle was coming from Kashmir side and contraband was meant to be transported to Punjab. The accused was arrested on spot and FIR No.229/2021 under Section 08/15 of NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Leh.

SSP Leh Rajiv Pandey, who himself supervised the operation and coordinated from interception till recovery, appreciated the efforts of police team and team of Anti-Narcotics Task Force J&K, Jammu for successful interception and recovery of contraband substance. The accused is presently in Police remand and lodged at lock-up of Police Station Leh.
