JAMMU: City Police arrested a habitual thief along with stolen gold ornaments worth several lakhs. This was informed by Superintendent of Police (SP) North Jammu Mohita Sharma while interacting with media persons.
Divulging the details, SP informed that on July 3 this year, a complaint was lodged at Police Post Residency Road by a person namely Mohammad Arif, son of Abdul Hussain of Fathepur District Rajouri, at present Christian Colony District Jammu regarding theft of gold ornaments and cash from his home. Acting over the complaint, a case FIR Number 45/2021under Sections 457 and 380 IPC was registered Police Station City and investigation started, SP Mohita Sharma informed.
“During the course of investigation, a team led by SHO Police Station City Inspector Deepak Katoch and assisted by Incharge Police Post Residency Road SI Jaswant Singh was constituted under the supervision of SDPO North Sharad Kalu”, SP said, adding that the team did strenuous efforts and with the help of CCTV cameras footages of the area finally arrested the thief from Prem Nagar area of District Jammu. The accused was identified as Bilal Ahmed Dar, son of Bashir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Qamarwari Srinagar, SP Mohita Sharma stated, adding that the accused was also involved in various theft cases registered in different police stations of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the disclosure of the accused, police team recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing 110.300 grams worth Rs 5,26,000 from bushes in BC Road park near Indira Chowk, SP said, adding that further investigation of the case is going on to ascertain his involvement in other cases.
