SRINAGAR: Police in Ganderbal said to have rescued a group of youth who had arrived for trekking at Sonamarg.
Police said that a group of 3 persons identified as Abbas Ali son of Mohd Bakir, Yawar Hussain son of Haider Ali Lone and Syed Qamar Ali son of Syed Ibrahim, all residents of Mirgund Budgam started trekking expedition on a peak in Sonamarg near fish point. “After covering some distance the trio reached a cliff which stalled their movement and they were unable to climb down thereby jeopardising their safety,” police said. As the three youth could not move out to safety, Police Station received their SOS calls and immediately pressed their rescue teams into action.
“The rescue teams scaled the heights and brought down all the three persons back safely,” police said. The rescue teams included SHO Sonamarg acted swiftly under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal Suhail Munawar Mir and SDPO Kangan. Locals and the family members of the rescued youth have thanked Police for their quick response and for securing the lives of ordinary citizens.
In the meantime, the Ganderbal Police has requesting trekkers not to plan the expedition on precarious routes and without help and assistance from professional trekkers.
