LG Ladakh for community participation in functioning of schools

KARGIL: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur visited Government Model Middle School (GMMS) Biathang Shilikchay, Kargil.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan, Additional DC Kargil Tsering Motup, officers of Education Department besides other concerned officers accompanied the LG during the tour. During the visit, LG Mathur interacted with the teachers, students and Village Education Committee (VEC) members and hailed their efforts in enhancing the roll of students in the school from a meager 6 students in 2016 to 136 presently by taking the initiative of running the school on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with proactive involvement of the local community. Underlining the importance of community participation in proper functioning of schools to yield desirable results and terming Government Model Middle School Biathang Shilikchay as model in this regard, LG Mathur said that the same model should be replicated by other Government schools in the UT.

The LG also went round different sections of the school including the distinctive lab type classes of different subjects, and expressed satisfaction about the unique type of teaching methods adopted by the school. Later, LG Mathur along with the CEC, Kargil and Former Executive Councillor and Councillor Trespone Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi visited the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Trespone and took stock of its overall functioning. The LG visited the astronomy lab dedicated to the students of Ladakh this year and different sections of the KV including the classrooms, labs, library and art room and expressed satisfaction on the level of infrastructure and educational facilities to students. Mathur instructed the Principal KV Kargil to take all requisite measures to further strengthen the School to make it one of the best KVs in the country. As regards to starting up of arts and commerce subjects and setting up of smart classes in the KV, LG Mathur requested the CEC, Kargil to consider necessary measures.

He also instructed the Principal KV Kargil to explore the possibilities for construction of hostels for students for which adequate land is available in the KV premises.
