JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday shot down a hexacopter drone in Akhnoor area of Jammu district.

The drone shot down 8 km inside the International Borders. Police also recovered improvised explosive device weighing 5 kg (IED) which was to be assembled and to be used by terrorists, police said. Agencies are probing whether terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba is behind the drone activity and using this modus operandi for a terror attack as in previous cases.

This is not the first time a drone was spotted in Jammu or near the International Borders. Since the twin blasts at the Jammu airbase on June 27, several drones were spotted in a month on multiple locations, raising threat of a drone attack.

Amid the hightened drone activity, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh recently directed officers to remain extra alert as terror outfits are continuously trying to use drones for terrorist activities.
