DODA: Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bhaderwah Abdul Qayoom inaugurated the Women Police Helpline Desk here at police station Assar in the presence of SHO Assar Inspector Nazir Ahmed. Speaking on the occasion, the ASP Bhaderwah said that the well designed Women Police Helpline Desk will help in protecting the rights of the women in the Assar sub division.
In order to make police more accessible and woman-sensitive ‘Women Help Desks’ were made functional at police station Bhaderwah, Gandoh, Thathri, Assar and Dessa, where the complaints of all women victims will be listened patiently and enquired into by women staff expeditiously. Women can register their complaints online or through social media also. The main objectives of establishing of Women Help Desk, is to make the police stations more women friendly and approachable. The Help Desk will be the first and single point of contact for any women walking into a police station. The officials of women Help Desk will be perfectly trained to deal any type of women related cases being registered in the police stations. The desk will have enlisted panel of experts like lawyers, psychologists and NGOs who can provide shelter, rehabilitation and training etc for accessing the outside support.
The desk will register, transfer the cases to the concerned authorities, and follow up the case, giving required assurance and support to the women approaching them. The desirable outcomes of Women Help Desk relate to increased comfort for women to approach police station.
Increase in approachability of women to police stations for counseling and reporting sexual crime, increase in confidence of women to visit police stations and reductions in response time by the law enforcement agencies to react to crisis or to track and identify criminals.
