Leopard captured in Khan Sahib Budgam, 3rd in two weeks

BUDGAM: The Wildlife Department on Friday morning captured a leopard in Kalshipora area of Khan Sahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Officials said that a team of wildlife department rushed to Kalshipora after receiving information about the spotting of the leopard in a residential area.

The leopard was captured alive by the team, he said, adding that the department has asked its men to remain alert and act as soon as they receive information about the sighting of the wild animals from any locality. “At around 6 a.m. this morning, the leopard weighing 60 kgs was caught and tranquilized,”.

It is being shifted to Dachigam where veterinarians will examine the animal. This was the second leopard to have been captured in Khansahib area and third in Budgam district in less than two weeks.

On June 15, a leopard believed to have mauled a 4-year-old girl at Ompora Housing Colony was captured alive by the wildlife department after nearly two-week-long searches.
