Major breakthrough in smuggling of liquor

KATHUA: In a major breakthrough against the trade of illicit liquor menace in the district, Kathua Police under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, R C Kotwal recovered six cartoons containing 72 bottles of illicit liquor in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS), Kathua and three persons were arrested.

Police said a team of PS Kathua led by Inspector, Vijay Kumar, SHO under the supervision of DySP Headquarters, Shammi Kumar during the naka checking duty in its jurisdictional area apprehended two persons namely Tanveer Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh and his accomplice namely Gourav Fotra, son of Ravi Dass both residents of Nagri who were plying their motorbike bearing Registration Number, PB06AU-4397. During checking, two cartoon containing 24 bottles of MC Dowell’s (illicit liquor )of 750ml each were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile in another incident the same police party apprehended another suspected person namely Sachin Kumar, son of Subash Chand of Badala Nagri. On checking four more cartoons were recovered containing 24 bottles of MC Dowell’s Whisky and 24 bottles of Imperial Blue thus making a overall recovery of 72 bottles of illicit liquor.

All the recovered consignment of illicit liquor was seized and three persons were arrested while motorbike were also seized. In this regard, a case FIR No 262/2021 and 263/2021 U/S 50 Excise Act,188/IPC stands registered at PS Kathua and investigation initiated.
