Over 800 bottles of illicit liquor seized, 14 arrested

JAMMU: Police seized over 800 bottles of illicit liquor and arrested 14 persons from different areas of Jammu district.

As per police sources, a major crackdown operation was carried out against the menace of illicit liquor whereby inputs were received from reliable sources, that during the COVID curfew some person are engaged into illegal trade of liquor, Jammu Police has recovered a truck full of illicit liquor that was meant for the purpose of selling illegally during lockdown situation in the Jammu district.

Acting swiftly on the information, a special police team led by SDPO West Rahul Naggar, SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ravi Kant and assisted by Incharge Police Post Sarwal SI Yougal Kishore was constituted under the supervision of SP City North Mohita Sharma. The team seized a truck carrying 785 illicit liquor bottles and arrested six persons, who were identified as Sourab Gupta, son of Romesh Chander Gupta of Janipur, Mohan Lal, son of Ram Lal of Ludhiana Punjab, at present MI Capital Bari Brahmana, Kushal Sharma, son of Nathu Ram Sharma of Chandan Nagar, Civil Line Ludhiana, Punjab, Sonu Sharma, son of Chaman Lal Sharma of Kaleeth, Akhnoor, Vishal Khajuria, son of Raj Gopal Khajuria of Adarsh Vihar District Jammu and Kuldeep Kumar, son of Sita Ram of Janipur Colony District Jammu.

During the preliminary enquiry it has been surfaced that the illicit liquor was brought from outside the UT for sale among the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. A case under FIR Number 81/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar and investigation started. Meanwhile, a team from Police Post Parade led by Inspector Purab Singh under the supervision of SHO Pacca Danga Inspector Ajit Singh and SDPO City Sharad Kalu apprehended two persons along with 20 bottles of illicit liquor. The team also seized one Innova car bearing registration number JK02AX 0504. The arrested persons were identified as Sanchit Sawhney, son of Sanjay Sawhney of Bantalab District Jammu and Daljeet Singh, son of Pritpal Singh of District Poonch. Cases under FIR Numbers 97/2021 and 98/2021 under relevant Sections have been registered at Police Station Pacca Danga and investigation started. However, a team from Police Station Khour led by SHO Inspector Bhupinder Singh apprehended a man along with 1.5 litres of illicit liquor and 15 litres of lahan.

The arrested person was identified as Yash Paul Sharma, son of Maluka Ram, a resident of Serh Tehsil Kharah Bali. A case under FIR Number 29/2021 under Section 48-E Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Khour and further investigation is on. In another case, a team from Police Station Bishnah led by SHO Inspector Joginder Singh Chib apprehended a person along with 20 litres of illicit liquor. The accused was identified as Baba Ram, son of Ram Rakha of Village Chak Harni Tehsil Bishnah District Jammu. Moreover utensils, cylinder and distillery were also seized on the spot. A case under FIR Number 89/2021 under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Bishnah and investigation initiated. In one more similar case, a team from Police Station Kanachack led by SHO Inspector Vishav Partap Singh under the supervision of SDPO Domana Kosheen Koul and SP Rural Sanjay Sharma arrested four persons from Kangral area along with 750 ml illicit liquor and around 80 litres lahan.

The arrested persons were identified as Leela Dhar, son of Tikam Dass of Chattisgarh, at present Kangrail, Sanjay Kumar Sahu, son of Ganpat Lal Sahu of Chattisgarh, at present Kangrail, Veer Singh, son of Bait Ram of Chattisgarh, at present Kangrail and Rattan Lal, son of Janak Ram of Chattisgarh, at present Kangrail. They were manufacturing the illicit liquor at a brick kiln in Kangral when police arrested them.

A case under FIR Number 69/2021 under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Kanachack and investigation started.
