SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, has said that dissent and disagreement have become a crime in the country particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
“In the country, particularly J&K, expressing dissent, disagreement has become a crime; with every passing day, they are coming up with new laws to suppress the voices that are expressing disagreement”, she told reporters at her residence on Wednesday. Mehbooba on a question why PDP leaders were leaving said it should be posed to those who have left. “I do not know how to react to that, when we made them Ministers, MLCs and MPs they were happy, and now that J&K, and particularly the party is going through tough times, I don’t know under what pressure, greed are they shifting sides”, she said. About the recent directions on flag hoisting on Government buildings, the PDP president said that flag hoisting order reflects a sense of insecurity on part of the Government of India.
“They are filled with a sense of insecurity and uncertainty, if that’s not the case, why aren’t the Governments in the rest of the States of the country ordering to hoist tricolours everywhere, why only J&K? There sure is a sense of inferiority in them”, she said.
