NCC girl cadets practice firing with small arms

JAMMU: As part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, Infantry Small Arms firing practice for Senior Wing NCC cadets of 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC was organised by local formation.

Total 24 cadets fired with newly introduced infantry weapon. Col Satvinder Singh, CO 2 J&K Girls Battalion and Lt Suman Lata, ANO of GCW Parade along with Instructor Staff. Weapon Training is an important subject in NCC Training and aim of this activity was to give an exposure to cadets about new infantry weapons and get them acquainted with military drill. Cadets were thrilled and grateful to receive this exposure. It was a life time opportunity for these cadets wherein many aspire to take Armed Forces as a career and serve the nation. The event is concurrent to Raising Day of 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC on Thursday. This NCC Girls Battalion was raised on 01 Apr 1964 as a 2 Coy Battalion with cadet strength of 320 SW and 400 JW cadets. The present cadet strength of unit has increased to 3080 in which cadets are enrolled from various schools and colleges of Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua and Reasi districts.

In December 1971, the Indian armed forces secured a decisive and historic victory over the Pakistan Army which led to creation of a new nation Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest military surrender after World War II. On 16 December 2020, the nation started the 50th anniversary celebrations of the occasion with an aim to showcase this great victory of the Indian armed forces. Year 2021 is being celebrated as the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ and nationwide year-long celebrations are being undertaken with effect from December 2020. 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Jammu has also made an endeavour to participate in a number of events and commemorative activities.

This will involve events where focus will be on participation of NCC cadets of schools and colleges. Involvement and participation of common citizen will also be encouraged by awareness activities like lectures, run for fun, screening of documentaries based on 1971 Operations, statue cleaning, visits to war memorials, mini marathon, skits and cultural programmes.
