Over 200 bovines rescued, 14 smugglers arrested 13 bovine smuggling bids foiled in 5 districts

JAMMU: Over 200 bovines were rescued and fourteen smugglers were arrested as Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Rajouri police foiled bovine smuggling bids in their respective districts.

“Acting on a specific input, a team of police station Nagrota in Jammu district led by SHO Inspector Mohd Shoket laid a special naka at TCP Nagrota,” a police official said, adding, during checking, a truck bearing registration number JK02AG-7873 was stopped for checking. He said on checking of the truck, 15 bovines were found loaded in the truck. He said both driver of the truck and cleaner were arrested on the spot and all the bovines were rescued from their possession. The accused were identified as Sarafraz Ahmed son of Abdul Rehman of Kherpura (Kokernag) and Amjed Khan son of Anzar Ali of Neel Fant (Kokernag).

“In this connection, a case FIR number 77/2021 under Section 188/IPC 11 PCA Act was registered in this connection at police station Nagrota,” the official said, adding, the whole operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Parupkar Singh and SP Rural Jammu Sanjay Sharma. In Rajouri district, the police foiled a bovine smuggling bid in Sunderbani area by rescuing 8 bovines which were being transported illegally to Sruinagar in a Tata Mobile vehicle number JK11B- 4762. Samba police foiled three attempts to smuggle bovines by rescuing 40 animals after arresting three bovine smugglers in three separate incidents. While 24 bovines were rescued at two different nakas by Ghagwal police in its jurisdiction, 16 bovines were rescued by Samba police at a naka. In Kathau district, Hiranagar police under the supervision of Inspector, Surinder Singh rescued 18 bovines being illegally transported in a truck bearing registration number JK02AR-1875.

A team of police station Kathua also rescued 16 bovines under the supervision of Inspector Vijay Kumar while naka checking at Satkey Chak. In Udhampur district also, six bovine smuggling bids were foiled. During naka checking, a team of police station Udhampur intercepted eight vehicles bearing registration numbers JK14A 9382, JK02AA 5191, JK02AP 6013, JK02AS 8196, JK02AA 0815, JK02AC 4327, JK02AE1552, JK02AJ 6275 and during their checking, 104 bovine animals were found illegally loaded in them without any valid permission. All the 104 bovine animals in total were rescued and bovine smugglers namely Abdul Majid son of Mohd Iqbal of Biazipura (Anantnag), Mohd Sadiq son of Mohd Bashir of Talwara (Reasi), Mohd Akram son of Mohd Yaqoob of Kass Kassa (Reasi), Nawaz Hussain son of Abdul Latief of Felti (Ramban), Zahid Ahmed son of Mohd Imran of Khanpora (Nagrota, Jammu), Mohd Yousaf son of Mohd Jumaid of Ragora (Jammu), Shahbaz son of Mohd Sadiq of Sheikhpora (Anantnag) and Mazid son of Shahi of Tinday (Bishnah, Jammu) were arrested on spot. Chenani police also rescued 21 bovine animals and arrested one smuggler. The bovines were being transported illegally in two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK14F-7960 and JK03A-8661.

The accused was identified as Des Raj son of Kheli Ram, resident of Sarsoo (Ramnagar). In all cases, the concerned police has registered cases under relevant sections and started further investigation.
