With a view to maintain better sanitation and hygiene in the markets and also to stop disposal of garbage on roads, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) distributed dustbins among the shopkeepers of City Chowk and Super Bazar. The dustbins were distributed by Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, JMC in presence of Avny Lavasa, Commissioner and under the overall supervision of Tinna Mahajan, Secretary, JMC. The Mayor appealed to shopkeepers, hoteliers and other businessmen not the throw garbage on roads, lanes and corners and handover the same only to designated vehicles of JMC which have been kept exclusively for this purpose. Commissioner JMC also spoke on the occasion and made people aware of the fine and penalties to be imposed on defaulters and violators as per municipal bye laws for littering and open dumping of garbage including (C&D) waste etc. The amount of fines and penalties for different violators and defaulters has already been notified by JMC through electronic and print media, she added. The market association assured the JMC Mayor and other officers that they shall provide full cooperation to them for maintaining sanitation up to the satisfactory level. The Commissioner appealed the general public to come forward and join hands with JMC so that the aim of Swachh Bharat can be achieved. She assured the citizens of the city that no stone shall be remained unturned in providing better sanitation facilities.
