Director, NRIS Leh, Dr. Padma Gurmet on Tuesday called on Lieutenant Governor R.K Mathur, here. Dr. Gurmet apprised the LG of the establishment of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa in Leh. He informed that the CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India has notified the establishment of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh and Dr. Padma Gurmet has formally assumed Charge of Director. The Institute is to be fully established within three years with provision for Research, Education and Public Health. LG Mathur congratulated Dr. Padma Gurmet for assuming the Charge of Director. Other topics pertaining to the development of medicinal /aromatic/herbal plants and Sowa-Rigpa research were also discussed. Later, Kunzes Angmo, a local entrepreneur working in the textile sector, called on LG Mathur and briefed about their vision in promoting socially responsible and sustainable entrepreneurial projects around Pashmina. She also apprised the LG of the challenges being faced by the local entrepreneurs owing to the current pandemic and requested for support from the administration. LG Mathur stated that the vision of improvement in Pashmina growth and value addition are amongst the prime focuses of the UT administration and various projects are being chalked out in this regard aiming to uplift the local economy of Ladakh.
