The story of a 7-year-old Kashmiri girl is being taught to kids in Hyderabad as her toil of cleaning the Dal Lake on a daily basis is said to be inspiring the children of her age. Gils named Jannat has featured in a Hindi textbook ‘Megha’ in which an entire chapter has been dedicated to her-teaching kids about Kashmir and the efforts of Jannat to keep the lake clean. Jannat-a shy, adorable girl-said that she was happy after she came to know about her story being narrated to kids and that she will continue with her work in the future as well. “I was happy after I came to know about it. I have been cleaning Dal for the last two years and will continue to do the same. It feels bad after you see it (Dal) getting dirtier with every passing day,” she said. Jannat finds the inspiration of cleaning the Dal from her father-Tariq Ahmad-who has been himself working towards keeping the world-famous Dal clean. The title of her story in the book is ‘Jannat Ki Jannat’. It is worth to be mentioned here that the PM Narendra Modi also made a mention of her feat in his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ke Baat’. Jannat’s father said that she has seen him do it and that’s where she picked it up. He said that his daughter could be an inspiration for others to own the responsibility of keeping the Dal clean. “Dal belongs to everybody and her feat should inspire others to work towards keeping the Lake clean; I am overwhelmed by her achievement,” he said. He said that his daughter will not be able to do it every day, but what remains the fact, he said, is that, through her, a message is sent across to the common masses to preserve the Dal.
