Kargil: LAHDC, local bodies seek evacuation of stranded pilgrims, students

Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil and elected representatives of Panchayat and Muncipal bodies of the district on Sunday threatened mass resignation if the administration failed to ensure evacuation of the pilgrims and students stranded in different parts of country and augment the facilities to fight the coronavirus pandemic. The representatives of LAHDC Kargil, Panchayat and Muncipal bodies on Sunday addressed a joint press conference wherein they passed a resolution and put forth three demands before the Ladakh Union Territory administration for immediate consideration and action. Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC KargilFeroz Ahmed Khan said they have time and again taken up the issues with the administration, however they done nothing so far. The demands include evacuation of pilgrims of Leh and Kargil who have completed their quarantine period in different parts of country, students and other citizens stranded outside and unrestricted supply of essential commodities to the district via Zojilla. “It has been decided that if the demands are not met within a week, all democratically elected representatives will submit resignations,” reads a resolution passed by the representatives of LAHDC, Panchayat and Muncipal bodies.
