The bonhomie between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often been at display whether it’s in Texas or Gujarat. The two leaders have often spoken eloquently about the other at home turves and otherwise. This mutual admiration is also reflected in US-India relationship which has improved under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. Interestingly, the Twitter handle of the White House, the official residence of American presidents, follows only 19 accounts, three out of which belong to PM Narendra Modi and President Kam Nath Kovind. It is interesting to note that two other India-centric Twitter accounts followed by the White House are US Embassy in India and India in US – the official handle of the Indian mission in the US. What makes it particularly noteworthy is the fact that the White House does not follow any other world leader other than PM Modi and President Kovind. The India-centric handles followed by the White House include @narendramodi – the personal Twitter account of Modi, @PMOIndia – the official handle of Prime Minister of India, @rashtrapatibhvn – the official Twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan and is run by the President’s Secretariat. And two others including @USAandIndia – Official account of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, @IndianEmbassyUS – Official account of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. PM Modi is the third most followed world leader after US President Trump and Pope Francis. Modi has 42 million followers on his personal account and 26 million followers on his institutional account. “Over the past 12 months, @realDonaldTrump has achieved 264 million interactions, more than five times as many as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with 52 million interactions, and 12 times as many as Pope Francis,” said Twiplomacy, a digital platform which assists international organisations and governments to improve their digital strategy.
