Drug peddler arrested from Ganderbal: Police

Police on Thursday said it arrested a “dreaded drug peddler” from Saffapora here. A statement said a police party led by station house officer, police station Saffapora, SI Sajad Khanday, under the supervision of DySP Ganderbal, S M Shafi and under patronage of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, intercepted one person, Muhammad Yasin Bhat, of Kambay Mohalla, Wakura, Ganderbal, who tried to evade Police naka at Treesa Saffapora crossing. “He was trying to sneak into nearby densely populated civil area. After a lot of resistance the person was apprehended along with a bag with 20 bottles of codein phosphate,” the statement said. It said the accused was arrested and other legal formalities were completed simultaneously. A case (FIR No 14/2020, U/S 8/21 NDPS) has been lodged at police station Saffapora and further investigation taken up, the statement said. “This is the fifth arrest of drug peddler within one month and the arrested peddler is dreaded one and a close ally of recently arrested drug peddler @ Sooda, with a strong network. He was active for the last seven years.”

The statement said people have hailed the action of police and expressed their concerns over the growing trend of drug addiction and trafficking.
