Over 20 persons were arrested in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after they violated the prohibitory orders issued in connection with the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, officials said on Thursday. A police official told Greater Kashmir that a group of people attempted to offer congregational late night prayers in view of Shab-e-Barat at a local mosque in Nesbal village of Sumbal. He said the arrests were made as the villagers violated section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by gathering at a mosque despite the clear orders from the administration in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Station House Officer (SHO), Sumbal, Muneeb Ul Islam confirmed the arrest of over two dozen persons. He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation taken up.
